Give of Yourself
My mother has taught us to be very giving individuals. I don't want to regret not doing something for someone if I had the chance to especially with the difficult economy. In my community there is someone with a homeless and hungry sign at just about every exit ramp. I never saw anything like that before where I live. It really makes me sad. I gather coupons to purchase items cheaper and send for samples to give to our local homeless shelter.
That is just one example of how she taught us to give back to our community. It is also important to give back to your own family and friends. For example, I have been very fortunate to have grandparents who have lived into their 90s. I always say that they are a full time job with overtime! Someone is at there house several times a day to help them. Also, there are plenty of errands and grocery shopping to be done. Everyone pitches in and as a result they are able to have the retirement they always wanted.
While, this can be a hard philosophy to live by sometimes, because there will always be someone who will try to take advantage of your kind-heartedness, it is a better way to live then being judgmental and suspicious of people.
